é SALON, made hairdressing industry history on Sunday 16th October 2011, as they became the first Australian salon to present at the Alternative Hair Show in London.
Making a marked return to the prestigious Royal Albert Hall, this year’s London Alternative Hair Show was themed ‘ILLUSION’, creating excitement as perceptions were altered allowing for an alternative reality. This show promised to deliver a charged atmosphere of inspiration and mystique – and it did! Each participating salon presented a 3-4 minute, choreographed show which showcased new talent and international hairdressers, giving them the opportunity to display their artistry to the world.
é SALON presented a show inspired by what they called “Tomorrow People” creating a fusion between yesterday, today and tomorrow. To communicate this they worked with shape, and a play on shapes. The cuts were classic in their geometry, yet with a modern line, inspired by tribal shapes we see in different cultures around the world and carved to the shape of the clothes.
“Our view for ‘Tomorrow People’ is that we will live in a world with no race, colour or prejudice – we will be just one people. I feel like we have begun our journey with this, bringing together the Australian industries with many others from around the world, in this moment in time.”
In 2011, the Alternative Hair Show raised over £190,000 for Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research. Since it was launched in 1983, the Alternative Hair Show has now raised more than £8 million for Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research. Today, thanks to the Alternative Hair Show, the dream of all children surviving leukaemia, lymphoma and other blood-related cancers becomes a real possibility.
Alternative Hair is supported by many wonderful hairdressing teams, who each year appear at their own expense to create incredible, imaginative and extremely impressive performances based on an ever-changing theme.
“To be in the company of such people as Tim Hartley, Andrew Collinge, Sassoon, Tigi Creative Team UK, Saco and SANRIZZ was truly awe-inspiring,” says Emiliano. “I could not have imagined in my wildest dreams the feeling I had when I stepped out onto that stage in front of 5,000 people; it was mind-blowing and I think one of the most incredible experiences I will ever have.”
“Having worked on my first Alternative Hair Show in London with Sanrizz, I feel like everything has come full circle, returning to this inspirational event,” says Emiliano. “It was a dream come true and an absolute honour to be the first Australian hairdresser to be invited to present at the London show. Working alongside the greatest hairdressers in the world, and having our name mentioned in the same sentence and our work featured on the very same stage is every hairdressers dream. Now to have had it as our reality, now that is something that dreams are made of. I honestly feel blessed to have experienced such a gift, with my father Samuel, cousin Valerio and our talented stylist, Lisa Muscat, and in the process contributed towards a cause greater than all of us!”
